Toxic Plants

Some indoor as well as outdoor plants are toxic to pets. The ones to watch out for are as follows:

Ficus
Crown of Thorns Dumb Cane

Emerald Duke Ivy (Hedra) all varieties Jerusalem Cherry
Pothos Philadendrons Pot Mums
Red Princess Spider Mums Sperengeri Fern
Umbrella Fern Weeping Fig
Ficus benjamin
Mistletoe berries
Poinsettia ...And most plant bulbs

This list is a collection of common toxic plants. It is NOT a list of all poisonous plants. In some types of vegetation, only certain parts of the plants are toxic. In others, all parts are poisonous.

Ingestion causes a wide range of symptoms. These may included:

  • mouth irritation
  • drooling,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • hallucinations,
  • seizures, and
  • coma.
If any of these symptoms occur, do not delay in getting your pet to a veterinarian. Even death can occur from nibbling any of the above plants.
