DRAKE CEMETERY - ESTCaledonia Township, Boone County, Illinois
Drake Cemetery is located on 1 mile west of Highway 76 on Dawson Lake Road. The cemetery lies across from the entrance to Prairie Road. There is no sign. There is only a metal gate with a chain and lock and near it a trail that four-wheelers' use. There are only a few stones in the cemetery even though it was used extensively - including a mass burial during an epidemic. The stones remaining are located mostly in the outskirts of the cemetery along the wire fence. There were bones strewn about the cemetery. It turned out that they were the bones of a deer that had died and decomposed in the northeast corner of the cemetery. The cemetery was walked in early 1980s by Helen Maxwell Williams - an amazing person who has spent many incredible hours researching the entire county. She adds information to the cemetery records that she has uncovered throught census and newspaper archives. Helen has generously given ComPortOne permission to post the information. For the names of those buried in the Drake Cemetery click here. Please be patient - the file is in pdf format.
