NEWBURG CEMETERY - EST 1836-1865

Belvidere Township, Boone County, Illinois

Newburg Cemetery was located in the Village of Newburg on Shaw Road by the Kishwaukee River and Newburg Rd. It was in a grove of trees. There is nothing remaining there now but we have a listing of burials from the records.

The information is from Helen Maxwell Williams. She has given ComPortOne permission to post the information. For the names of those buried in the Newburg Cemetery click here. Please be patient - the file is in pdf format.

"Newburg was a thriving little town and when the railroad bypassed it, the people started drifting away. Some people removed their loved ones from this cemetery but others for some reason did not. History and family records say these people were buried here and there is no record of their removal.

The cemetery has been abandoned for many years and there is no trace of it. History tells us about where it was and I have trampled the area with no success." - H.M.W.
