RUSSELLVILLE CEMETERY - EST 1855-1987Bonus Township, Boone County, Illinois
Russellville Cemetery is located on Russellville Road south of Edson Road [about a mile north of Squaw Prairie Rd]. It is a small cemetery. There is no parking or road into the cemetery. Park along the road. It had been struck with vandalism shortly before the pictures were taken. Hopefully, repairs have been made. "Some of Boone County's early settlers are buried here. In 1855 this cemetery was laid out on land given by Rev. Oren Miller for a burial ground. The earliest burial seems to be an infant, Francis, son of James and Maria Gooch in 1842. [Probably buried elsewhere and transferred here when the cemetery was organized.] This was an abandoned cemtery for many years and it looks like several bodies may have been removed to other place. I am sure there are many buried here with no markers or the stones have worn away." - H.M.W. The information is from Helen Maxwell Williams - an amazing person who has given ComPortOne permission to post the information. For the names of those buried in the Russellville Cemetery click here. Please be patient - the file is in pdf format.
