LAWRENCE CEMETERY - EST

Chemung Township, McHenry County, Illinois

Lawrence Cemetery is present on the map in an area northeast of Chemung, west of Lawrence [a community that now exists of just a few houses]. However, the cemetery no longer appears to exist. Starting in Chemung, from Highway 173; go north on Oak Grove Road, follow the curve to east; and then north. Turn on Norma Lane. This is the subdivision built behind the cemetery; but there is no longer a way to access the land where the cemetery once existed. You can also see the hill from Lawrence Road; it is high on the hill behind a farm. There were only 5 known burials in Lawrence Cemetery. These include 3 Bigsby persons and 2 unknowns.
