Oakland Cemetery is located on Route 75 - 2miles east of the 70-75 intersection. East of Durand, Illinois. It was established in 1845, but the first burial was in 1839 (also the first in Durand township). The cemetery consists of mostly older monuments. Although the cemetery has a gated entrance, the rest of the cemetery is oddly not enclosed by a fence. Some family names found in the Oakland Cemetery are: Campbells, Millers, Pettingill and Crowley
This cemetery receives no tax support for its care. It belongs to the residents of the four surrounding sections. A volunteer committee and the trustees have been working the past two summers to raise, straighten and repair stones. Five have been unearthed that had disappeared from sight.
