Family History Centers in Wisconsin

Notes about Family History Centers
Family History Centers are great places to research your ancestors. They have access to records on micofiche and CD Rom as well as listings of many other records that may be ordered for you to view at a minimal cost [usually just shipping] - and sometimes they have some resources in their facility that needn't be ordered. FHCs have pedigree charts and family group sheets - again, the cost is minimal [less than the cost of copying the sheets].

Some FHCs may only be open as little as 12 hours per week while some are open 25+ hours. Determining factors include the availability of volunteers and the demand from the community. Since the excessive cost of gas, some are now by appointment only. Since the FMC are staffed by volunteers and the hours vary for each FHC please call before you make the trip. Below you will find a list of the locations of Illinois and Wiscosnin FHCs. This is not their mailing addresses. Inquiries sent to these addresses will be returned as there is no provision to receive mail at LDS churches. If you call to inquire about the hours, please keep trying, eventually you will call at the right time and someone wiil tell you know the hours that FHC is open. There is no cost to visit a Family History Center.

There are many reasons to visit a FHC, including the possibilty of finding other visitors doing similar research. And if you've run into a roadblock, family history consultants (as well as other visitors) are willing to offer suggestions. The volunteers working at the Family History Centers are usually LDS, however, the patrons who visit and benefit from the research are from all areas of the country and of many different faiths.
