Snowboarding - is allowed at most skiing resorts. Back to the Skiing Page. However, the park below is specifically designed only for Snowboarding.

Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park 19 N 475 Rt 31, Algonquin, Ilinois, 847-836-RAGE / Call for directions and rates. Hrs: M-Th 4pm - 10pm / Fri 4pm-11pm / Sat & Holidays 9am-11pm / Sun 9am-10pm. Lessons, rentals, groups, special events.

Illinois

Forest Preserve of Cook County
Hours for cross country skiing at all locations are from Sunrise to Sunset - seven days a week. (Except in Special Use Areas) For current Snow Conditions call Forest Preserve General Headquarters: 312-261-8400 / suburban -708-366-9420 / 800-870-3666 / TDD 708-771-1190.

  • Camp Sagawau - 12545 W 111th Street / Lemont, IL 60439 / 630-257-2045 / Offers: Groomed trails, warmup area, seminars, lessons, school group programs, nature and trail skiing, equipment rental. Skiers must obtain a free trail pass in the Farmhouse before skiing. Located on Rt 83, E of Archer Ave. Or 4 miles W of the Swallow Cliffs Winter Sports Area.
  • Arie Crown Forest - .4 mile trail length, 3 shelters, Lake Ida is open for ice skating as soon as safe ice skating conditions exist.
  • Bemis Wood - .4 mile trail length, 6 shelters, sledding, coasting and tobogganing.
  • Beverly Lake - .2 trail length.
  • Deer Grove - .4 trail length, 5 shelters, sledding, ice skating, coasting, tubing & tobogganing slides.
  • Maple Lake Area - 1.2 mile trail length.
  • Swallow Cliff Area - 1.6 mile trail length, warming shelter & heated rest rooms.

Galena / Jo Daviess County Area

  • Lacoma Cross Country Skiing - 8080 Timmerman Dr, East Dubuque / 815-747-3874 / Forge your own trails on a 260 acre golf course overlooking the Mississippi River. Just off Hwy 20, E of East Dubuque. No charge for use of trails. Ski rental $7 per person.
  • Eagle Ridge Nordic Ski Center - US Rt20, Galena, 815-777-2500. / 60K of groomed trails for cross-country skiing. Also, skating & sledding

Ogle County

  • Byron Forest Preserve District - 7993 N River Rd, Byron / 815-234-8535. Near Prairie View Golf Course / check in at the South Shelter or Jarrett Prairie Center prior to skiing, warming hut hours are: Sat 9am - 4pm / Sun noon - 4pm. Skiing closes at sunset, allowed after this time by permit only. Ski rentals available.

Stephenson County

  • Krape Park and Oakdale Nature Preserve - Freeport. 815-235-6114. Fresh air, solitude and beautiful scenery are available to the Cross-Country Skier at both Krape Park and Oakdale Nature Preserve. Oakdale offers 3+ miles of marked trails. The Nature Center is open on Sunday 1:30pm to 4:30pm for a place to warm up. At Krape Park, a warming house / concession stand is available during the ice skating season. Enjoy lighted Ice Skating areas on Yellow Creek. Supervised hours are Noon to 9:30pm weekend and holidays, and 5pm - 9pm weekdays. Call 815-235-6114 for ice conditions. Ice Hockey may be played in a designated area on Yellow Creek which is available for groups and individuals on a first-come, first-served basis. Try Krape Park's Bandshell Hill for Sledding and Tobogganing (for all ages.)
  • Taylor Park - E Stephenson St, Freeport. 815-235-6114. Open dawn - 10:30pm. Terrain is open and flat.
  • Pecatonica Prairie Path - E Hillside Rd (E of Freeport to Meridian Rd) - Freeport. Open sunrise to sunset.
  • Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park - Lena. 815-369-4282. 715 acre state park with a 40 acre lake. Trails for hiking and Cross-country skiing. Also, Ice Skating.
  • Sledding - the parks recommended for sledding in Stephenson County are Hideaway Park (Pearl City), Krape Park (Freeport), Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park (Lena), Lions Park (Lena).

Winnebago County

  • Rockford Park District
    • Sandy Hollow Gold Course - 2500 Sandy Hollow Rd, Rockford. Groomed trail. Sandy Hollow Ski Touring Centre / Hrs: weekends 9am - 4pm, closed weekdays except with groups with advance reservations / Open on weekdays when school is out of session (except Christmas Day). Rentals available.
    • Sinnissippi Golf Course - 1401 N 2nd St, Rockford. 815-987-8858. Groomed trails, no rentals or lessons.
    • Lockwood Park - 5209 Safford Rd, Rockford. 815-987-8809. Shared trails of Lockwood & Page Parks, non-groomed trails, no rentals.
    • Sledding Hills in the Rockford area include: Sinnissippi Park, Aldeen Park, Twin Sisters Park, & Page Park.

Iowa

  • Bunker Hill Golf Course - 2200 Bunker Hill Rd, Dubuque / 319-589-4263. Cross-Country Skiing.
  • Heritage Trail & Swiss Valley Park - 2 miles north of Dubuque. 13768 Swiss Valley Rd, Peosta 52068 / 319-556-6745. Cross-Country Skiing.
  • Allison-Henderson Park - 1500 Loras Boulevard, Dubuque / 319-589-4263. / Ice skating
  • Comiskey Park - 2400 Jackson St, Dubuque 319-589-4263 / Ice Skating.
