A Guide to TV Ratings

TVG - General Audiences
TVPG - Parental guidance suggested. Some parents would find it unsuitable for younger children. Possible bad language, violence, sexual situations and dialogue.
TV14 - Parents strongly cautioned. They may find it unsuitable for chidlren younger than 14, because of language, violence or sexual situations.
TVM - Mature audiences. This may be unsuitable for children younger than 17.
TVY - This is a show aimed at children of any age.
TV7 - A show, aimed at ages 7 and older. Younger children might have trouble with the mild violence or scary scenes.
E-1 - This is a symbol indicating a chidren's show that qualifies as educational or informational. The Federal Communications Commission requires each station to air at least three hours of E-1 shows a week.

Four new letter designations have been added to these ratings: S - sexual situations; V - violence; L - coarse language; and D - suggestive dialogue.
